Context

One should always count one's blessings, no matter how small, and so it was that on opening this file I said a small prayer to whichever gracious and overlooked deity concerns himself with archive documents. This is a file that contains precisely what it says it does and literally not a thing more.

During the process of the GLDP Inquiry, the London Borough of Bromley was an objector against the proposals for Ringway 2, though happily not in the same manner as most other borough councils: they simply didn't like the fine details of the motorway's route, and in this document presented their own alternative proposal for the motorway's line between (deep breath for excessively local references) South Norwood and the Midland Bank sports fields at New Beckenham.

What this means for the intrepid Ringwaynaut is that, where the GLC had Ringway 2 following the railway line on the stretch north of Parkway E, Bromley introduced a noticeable S-bend at Parkway E, intruding on the sewage farm of South Norwood, then following another railway just to the east towards New Beckenham Station.

• One extremely large plan sheet, indicating:
  • Bromley's proposed motorway line;
  • A revised design for the Parkway E interchange, including a large roundabout over the motorway that combines some sliproads from Parkway E with the local junction at Elmer's End;
  • A layout for the junction at New Beckenham, previously thought to have been on Worsley Bridge Road but here shown on the west side of the railway line connecting to a new local road linking Kent House Lane to Lower Sydenham.
