Context
A large proportion of this file comprises a stack of parliamentary questions from the two or three MPs whose constituencies were affected by the north western sweep of Ringway 3, who were putting forward questions on behalf of worried constituents. These are NIMBYish enquiries whose answers are, without fail, "we're still investigating route options, go away and leave us alone".
One or two are a little more edifying. One concerns a claim for compensation by the resident of 8 Fort Road, whose front garden would be some fifty feet distant from the new motorway. His claim is accompanied by an A4-sized photocopy of a small section of an engineering drawing for this new road - the 1964 GLC route from Yeading to Scratchwood via Stanmore, which until now we'd only seen as a distant line on a map. Turns out full drawings must have been made for this, with junction layouts too (some sliproads are visible here). No other drawings of this route can be found, however.
Another contains the full GLC press release, detailing the route of their 1964 proposal, which confirms the route would have been motorway. This also has a small sketch map of the route attached.
To the rear of the file is a large folded map on which are marked routes from the M1 to Heathrow Airport, including the North Orbital, routes then in use on existing roads via Harrow, some D-Ring proposed alignments and a pencil sketch from South Oxhey running west of Watford to Hunton Bridge, which is labelled "Aylesbury Radial".
