Context
Not nearly as interesting as its title suggests. The hope is, of course, that a file that deals with the safeguarding of a very specific route of a particular road will contain some information on the route of that road, but then things are never so simple at the National Archives.
This file contains a good sturdy wedge of correspondence that gives virtually nothing away, and is mostly to do with the administrative side of protecting land, rather than actually mentioning what land was protected.
There is, however, tucked away in the general dullness a hand-drawn pencil line of one of the proposed Ringway 3 routes from Dartford all the way around to the Thames, as well as M23, SCRPDR and Ringway 2.
Contents of note
- Correspondence between the Ministry and a local council in Surrey who had given planning permission for a new nursery on a protected line. This - for a change - does include a plan that appears to show land reserved for a stacked roundabout with left-turn sliproad connecting the Ringway with the M3. This diagram is available as part of the CBRD Ringways feature.
People with camera copies
Chris Marshall has a partial copy - mostly just the M3 junction part. Steven Jukes has a copy of the hand-drawn outline maps.
