Context
Some details concerning experimental signs that were erected on four stretches of the Great North Road. They appear to have been used as test signs for the Worboys Commission, which eventually determined the new continental-style signs introduced in 1964.
Small diagrams of them are included, but they are the sort that were sent to sign manufacturers at the time - not pattern accurate; more a pencil sketch of the sign with typed text and approximations of the symbols. Apart from this, it's mostly a disappointing series of letters to and from sign manufacturers, lists of costs, account sheets, receipts and the like.
