Context
This file deals with some of the preparations for the opening of the M1 between junctions 2 and 5, and specifically the signage and signalling on this section of motorway.
A great deal of it is actually to do with the installation of new "motorwarn" signals on the motorway, and the new signage to be erected on the M1 north of junction 5 and the A41 at its new southern terminus.
A lot of it is taken up with tedious contractual documents relating to the signage of the motorway that is not very illuminating.
Contents of note
- Signage plans for Scratchwood Services indicate that the decision not to build the whole roundabout at the outset was taken relatively late in the day, as the early signage plans show a full roundabout here.
- Junction numbers were just being introduced as signage was being finalised, and a request was made not to put the "3" panel on signs at Scratchwood until the link road to the A1 was built. We're still waiting!
