==Context==
In 1951, London County Council prepared and submitted its first County Development Plan, a new requirement for all County Councils that would set out their ambitions for planning and development within their county.

This document is a vast, single-sheet, cloth-mounted map of the whole of the County of London, printed in full colour. When opened out completely, it is almost as big as the County of London itself (well, perhaps not quite, but it ''will'' occupy an entire eight-seat table in the LMA reading room).

The map indicates planning and zoning proposals for the whole of the County of London as they stood in 1951, along with colour coding for areas of open space, conservation, comprehensive redevelopment, and so on. Of interest to the ArchiveWiki viewer is that it also marks and clearly labels all the LCC's road improvement proposals at the time, including fairly comprehensive plans for upgrading the South Circular Road.

The accompanying Programme Map at [[GLC/TD/DP/DC/43/011]] shows the same data, colour-coded in a different way to indicate intended timescales for each feature.
