==Context==
The plans for the M1 are stored in the National Archives, but they're split into separate groups. This is because the initial section of the M1 didn't go through public enquiry at the same time - the main section of the motorway from Luton to east of Dunchurch was approved in 1956, presumably because it mostly passed through the middle of nowhere. The Dunchurch Bypass and Watford - Luton sections were approved in 1957, the Crick extension in 1958, and all the connecting roads to make everything join up were finally passed through in early 1959 just before the bulldozers turned up.

This file contains the full plans, including the statutory instruments, of the M1 between Luton and the M45, and the M45 to the A45 east of Dunchurch. The line of the motorway is marked out on a six-inch map, and there are further maps showing every single junction and bridge that the M1 was to cross, including all footpaths.
