This file draws together discussions from across the London Traffic Advisory Committee about one of the single topics that was a continual source of discussion and which connected to each of its many sub-committees: the proposal to establish a London Traffic Authority.

The proposals led to the draft London Traffic Bill in 1921 and, eventually, to the London Traffic Act of 1924.

This file contains a great deal of discussion and disagreement over the form and constitution of the London Traffic Authority. Sir Henry Maybury eventually made a proposal, drawing together elements from a number of existing ideas, which received some broad agreement. The full minutes of those discussions, and Maybury's proposal, are here in all their tedious detail.

The file is, rather charmingly, full of little slips of memo paper, used to separate groups of papers, with an old Public Record Office logo and an address in Chancery Lane.
