==Context==
This file contains material from the early stages of planning for the Trans-Pennine motorway, now M62, in West Yorkshire. Most of it is tedious correspondence, and to give a flavour of the sort of thing it contains in abundance, there is a weighty tender document from West Yorks CC for soil sample work.

The reason it appears to be of some interest is that the eastern terminus is given as “Ledsham” - a village near the A1/A63 junction, which is nowhere near the present M62 but would have been the terminus for the northern line of the route projected before an eastward extension towards Hull was considered. The northern line was tentatively numbered M19 as it might have been separate from the Trans-Pennine section of motorway.

There is a rather quaint note on file from 1960: "The traffic across the Pennines is not very high and it is doubtful whether it will justify 3 lane duals." Hindsight is 20/20 I suppose.

==Contents of note==
* Maps and plans showing borehole and survey locations along all possible alignments – several options around Scammonden, several around Huddersfield and – joyously – two lines east of Lofthouse. One is very familiar and goes to Ferrybridge, the other is the fabled line to Ledsham.

* A map (labelled "County Plan") showing the preferred route of West Yorks CC. This would bring the Trans-Pennine motorway north of Huddersfield but south of Dewsbury, meeting the M1 somewhere around Ossett. A separate motorway – the M19, presumably – would then run east from Lofthouse, south of Oulton, skirting the southern edge of Kippax and terminating at Boot and Shoe on the A1 – not even to the southern A63 junction, Selby Fork, which is usually stated for M19.
