Context
In the 1920s traffic control was still at a primitive stage of development, and advances were mostly made by private companies. This file is the Ministry of Transport's dealings with Forest City of Manchester, with regard to Forest City's traffic signal controlled pedestrian crossings.
It includes correspondence between the Ministry and the company, and details of the sites where crossings were installed or turned down.

- Promotional material published by Forest City is here in original leaflets and letters. These show photographs of Forest City pedestrian crossing installations, detailed descriptions of their operation, etc. in various stages of development.
- Charming letter from New Scotland Yard ruling out a pedestrian crossing in Stepney because immigrants there are too "excitable and ill-disciplined".
