Context
This file is in a series of 17 files, explained in detail at GLC/DG/PTI/P/05/048.
Within the wider series, this file contains correspondence from August 1969. This was the month after Ringway 2's route was announced to the public, and once again there is a huge amount of correspondece here.
Contents of note
- Many, many more letters from the public. Huge numbers of them - understandably, given the very basic information that had been given out - were from people who lived near the line but not actually on it. Many people who were in the process of selling a property found that, if they were anywhere near the proposed line, they were suddenly unable to sell at all. The GLC could only write back the law did not permit them to purchase a property unless it was actually on the line, but it was lobbying the Government to change the law to give them more powers. That must have been cold comfort.
- One letter (or at least, the only one I happened to find) of lukewarm support from a man who, having said he agreed with the new motorway, went on to criticise literally everything about it.
