Wasteoftime.jpg This file is a waste of time.
You are advised to avoid it like the plague. Its file title sounds rather interesting but it may contain only dull papers that fail to illuminate the subject matter or it may not even be related to the subject suggested by the title.

Context

This file comes in two parts which must be ordered separately, doubling the amount of time and effort you'd have to invest in order to pull out the two thick wedges of uselessness that reside at this file reference. Together, they are a dumping ground for several publications that the Ministry of Transport handed to the GLDP Inquiry as evidence, without any explanation or supporting documentation, and clearly at a loss for what to do with them, they were plonked here to be forgotten.

In the first file, HLG 159/159/1, you will find a multiple-volume report by the Ministry of Transport called "Transport of Goods by Road", showing (at great length) national figures for tonnage of goods hauled between various population centres. Great.

The second file is a little more varied in its selection of dry Ministry reports, containing as it does:

  • Operating Costs in Road Transport (Department of the Environment)
  • Transport for Industry (Ministry of Transport)
  • Highway Statistics 1969 (Ministry of Transport)
  • The West Cumberland Transport Survey (Oh Dear God)

I actually spent some time looking through these and they have only a tangential bearing on the less interesting side of our research into proposed London road schemes. They are, in short, no use at all.

My notes on this file summarise it as "approximately the most boring thing I have ever looked at".

People with camera copies

You'd have to be mad.
