Context
In the early 1960s, the Ministry of Transport were evidently concerned about the state of some trunk roads in London because they were drawing up "comprehensive improvement" plans for some of them. The North Circular plans came to light years ago; in this file, plans are drawn up for the A40 Western Avenue in exactly the same 1961-62 timeframe.
In here is the full typewritten report "comprehensive improvement" of the A40 between Denham and Wood Lane. It comes with diagrams of traffic flows, traffic counts at specific locations, proposed improvements section by section with simple diagrammatic junction layouts, and a London-wide plan showing how the project would fit in to wider proposals for road improvements in London, some of which are a bit unusual.
