Context

In the years following the Second World War, Abercrombie's grand plans for London were re-appraised and ambitions were slimmed down a little. One consequence of this was the idea that the "D" Ring Road need not be a whole ring - a partial ring around north and west London, from the Basingstoke to the Norwich Radial, would suffice. That idea held sway from 1947 until 1965, when different ideas were formed and this file was opened to deal with the matter. This is, in other words, the file in which the "D" Ring from the A11 to Dartford is resurrected and enters the motorway programme, creating the M25 as we know it between junctions 26 and 31.

There is one plan in here, which my notes describe as "a dreadful photocopy, with one plot of land shaded, of an area that might be just east of the M25/A10 interchange".
