Context
This file relates to an interim improvement scheme on the North Circular within LB Enfield between Green Lanes and Powys Lane. At the time full widening to dual carriageway was planned, but never actually happened. In the meantime marginal widening to provide two lanes each way was carried out.
The dual carriageway passed through (as it still does today) a railway bridge that had been widened for future dualling - but still only used one of the two available spans.
The imperative for this scheme was apparently that this short section was 1000ft of single-lane road between two wider sections of North Circular; in 1971, the active proposal was to provide a 40ft roadway to allow 2x10ft lanes each way. It's interesting to compare that MOT plan with the GLC's vision for Ringway 2 South.
There are four plans at the back but they really aren't worth your time.
