LEGISLATION: Northern and Western Motorway Bill, 1924
Date range | 1923-1930 |
File base | Series MT, subseries MT 39 |
Context
The Northern and Western Motorway was one of the major early motorway proposals in the United Kingdom. Proposed before the Special Roads Act, it attempted to use legislation designed for light railways to allow for its construction.
Contents of note
This includes some really quite interesting items (to me anyway), including a copy of the Bill itself, route maps, advertising items, it possible use as unemployment relief during the construction phase, the Government's response (negatively) to the proposals.
As well as the N&WM itself, the file also contains information about daughter schemes, including a proposed motorway network of the late 1920s.
