This seems to contain files and correspondence accumulated by English Heritage, who had a number of misgivings about the Ringway 1 project - most of them to do with the loss of notable properties and patches of open space. * Excellent drawing showing the original proposed alignment of Ringway 1, in cutting and short lengths of cut-and-cover tunnel, through the middle of Blackheath, alongside four two-lane bored tunnels around the outside on a new alignment. EH proposed a shorter bored tunnel on the line of the original road as a mid-priced compromise.
* Diagram showing that the protected line was moved to the north side of the railway through Peckham Rye - a notable diversion given the size of the railway lands there - to avoid several houses of architectural merit on the south side.

Context

This seems to contain files and correspondence accumulated by English Heritage, who had a number of misgivings about the Ringway 1 project - most of them to do with the loss of notable properties and patches of open space. One of their key concerns was the line of the route through the historic and picturesque Blackheath Village.

Contents of note

  • Excellent drawing showing the original proposed alignment of Ringway 1, in cutting and short lengths of cut-and-cover tunnel, through the middle of Blackheath, alongside four two-lane bored tunnels around the outside on a new alignment. EH proposed a shorter bored tunnel on the line of the original road as a mid-priced compromise.
  • Diagram showing that the protected line was moved to the north side of the railway through Peckham Rye - a notable diversion given the size of the railway lands there - to avoid several houses of architectural merit on the south side.
