Context

The Mersey Railway Company was a vociferous opponent of the Queensway Tunnel project and hoarded all manner of information relating to its construction. This is one of the documents it held, now at the National Archives thanks to railway nationalisation in 1948.

It delivers something a little less exciting than the title suggests: there are only a small number of plans here, showing the outline of the tunnel's route. The only diagrams in any great detail are approximately 1:5000 plans, which show the work sites and test bore holes in Liverpool and Birkenhead. It seems that shafts were sunk near the river bank at both sides, which later became the ventilation shafts.

There is very little else here.
