The majority of historic maps published by OS, OSNI and OSI available to us are published on SABRE Maps, which should be the first port-of-call for research via standard OS sheets from the end of WW1 to today; although note that Crown Copyright is recognised and followed.

OS Six Inch Road Maps Six inch to the mile Ordnance Survey maps dated from around 1935-1940, useful for finding obscure road numbering detail.
