Context
The GLDP was, in many ways, the purpose and the object of the Greater London Council in its first decade of existence. After six years of planning, and the biggest public inquiry in the history of the UK, the end result was this document: the finished and approved GLDP, a blueprint for the future development of London.
In light of all that, it's impossible not to be underwhelmed by the actual document. One A4-size book, not very thick, bound in flimsy brown card and bashed out on a typewriter rather than professionally typeset. It is written in the most dry prose imaginable.
Nonetheless, the importance of this document - especially with reference to the Ringways - can't be underestimated.
