Context
This file contains a wealth of material on the work of the MOT's roads department in its early years, but it is really much too general to provide anything much of any use.
There are a great number of dry reports here about the transfer of work from the Road Board at the MOT's creation, lists and costings of MOT work in the early 1920s, that sort of thing. There is, for example, a list of bridges made of steel. A lot of material here is financial in nature. There is also some very early talk of the creation of trunk routes, which is described here as "nationalisation" of main roads.
