Context
The route of Ringway 3 in the Denham area was established by Brandt & O'Dell. Since their 1964 report little progress has been made so new consultants were appointed to continue studies into the route of Ringway 3. Husband & Co were tasked with the section between the A40 and Harefield along with the Denham Spur. In 1970 they proposed two options which was an improvement of the original Brandt & O'Dell proposals and an alternative with the Denham Spur forming the mainline of Ringway 3. Both are shown on 6" maps with full junction layouts.
A year later another study was undertaken and this includes the North Orbital Road, aka M25, and the huge Denham Interchange complex. Here we have several alternative layouts along with a recommendation of the preferred option although it is assumed no final decision was made before the project was cancelled following the Layfield Report in 1973. There are A4 sized 1:25000 maps showing basic slip road arrangements but the larger 6" maps the report refers to aren't included which is a shame.
Also included is Hertfordshire Council's report into an alternative route for Ringway 3 which follows a line closer into London.
