Context
This file refers to "Fiveways Corner", which was a motorway construction scheme that extended the M1 fractionally from a temporary terminus to what is now J2, supplying the flyovers linking the A1 to the M1 at that location. It also, coincidentally, contains some more general correspondence about the M1 in this area, including some details on the never-built Scratchwood Link.
Contents of note
- Two folios of line plans for the side roads order for Fiveways.
- Large plan showing sliproads joining A1, and further plans showing the layout of the junction as built.
- Line plan of original Page Street temporary terminus.
- Report suggesting that the Fiveways scheme was being pursued even before the earlier Hendon Urban Motorway project was complete and open. The traffic flows crossing at Fiveways were considered so catastrophic that a further underpass was also considered to take A1/A41 interchange movements off the junction once the flyover was in two-way use for the M1.
