Roads in England and Roads in Scotland reports (and their less consistently named later cousins) were initially annual reports on the state of Trunk and Principal road construction - from landing in the preparation pool to opening, often with costs, lengths, numbers etc.

They're really useful snapshots of the overall pictures at the time of publication. Later editions removed Principal roads and concentrated only on the Trunk network, and so are slightly less interesting.

There's occasionally a bit of mapping (well, overviews) and some pretty pictures. Anyone who isn't a hardcore road enthusiast would probably find them quite dull mind...
