Context
This is the first of two files on this subject - the second is MT 120/232. It relates to the recruitment of a firm of consultants - Brian Colquhoun and Partners - to carry out a study and come up with a route for Ringway 3 south of London, running between the M4 and Dartford. Other studies had been done by the GLC, Surrey and Kent County Councils in the years leading up to 1966 but no clear route had been established. The firm would also be required to come up with an economic assessment of the route as part of the job.
This file is not so much concerned with what the consultants were doing - given the dates, at the time they were busy investigating and had no conclusions to report - so instead it is mostly correspondence, agendas and minutes of meetings to discuss how the study would be done, briefs for carrying out traffic studies, etc. There is a lot here to do with the steering group that met every three or four months to monitor progress.
At the back are some large plan sheets - four are flowcharts or Gantt charts setting out the study methodology and timeframes; the other six are to do with the traffic study and show the zones used for trip origin/destination plotting and that sort of thing.
