Context

This document looks at an alternative outer alignment for Ringway 3. The existing proposed route for an outer line for R3 is so far out that is runs very close to the North Orbital Road. This would make R3 less attractive to through traffic. The new line would be 2 miles shorter and run nearer to urban areas which it would serve better. It would also require less demolition than any of the previously considered inner routes. A map accompanies the text which shows the line of the new route vs the existing. The previously safeguarded inner routes would be scrapped and property purchased by GLC be re-sold.

Contents of note

  • 1 inch map of the area with a pencil marked line of the route from Denham to the M1 which shows a crudely drawn roundabout interchange at the B455. Another roundabout is shown at the A4008 but the slip roads are missing. The same map shows a lighter line running from the A312 Parkway to the B455 interchange. This shows an even cruder layout for the R3/A40 junction which appears to be a three level stacked roundabout with the slip roads failing to meet the roundabout.
  • A smaller scale map shows the existing and new outer routes with a roundabout interchange at the A4008 junction for the old development plan line.
