Context

This file is about the construction of the Barton High Level Bridge on what was the original line of the M62. It includes various newspaper clippings about the bridge's construction in the 1950s, including reports on two accidents in 1959 that temporarily halted its construction.

The piece de resitance is a panoramic photo of the Manchester Ship Canal with an artist's impression of the bridge drawn over the top of it, dating from 1956.
